| Description: | Comprehensive information and referral concerning human service resources in Lane County available to all, with a focus on assistance to people with low incomes or special needs. Phone and walk-in assistance is available. Adjunct services include message and mail drop services for homeless people, publication of the annual HELP Directory, screening for eye clinic and a quarterly newsletter, "In Formation". White Bird Info-Line in conjunction with a number of other Lane County agencies has a new and improved version of The Lane on-line. |

Q: What do I have to do to sign up for mail and message service?
A: Come in and bring I.D.
Q: Is there any cost for the eye exam and glasses?
A: No. The doctors and opticians volunteer their services, and the frames are donated.
Q: How can I find resources for a senior citizen?
A: BenefitsCheckUp helps people to find programs for seniors that may pay for some of their costs of prescription drugs, healthcare, utilities, and other essential items or services.
Q: Where does your funding come from?
A: We are funded by the United Way, Human Service Commission, and through sales of the Help Book.
Q: How can I purchase a Help Book?
A: Come by the office Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and pick one up, or give us a call and we will mail you a brochure and order form. Information about the Help book is also available online, from where you can print an order form.
Q: How can I volunteer with Info Line?
A: The first step is to complete New Volunteer Training, which orients you to all of White Bird's programs and trains you to be the front desk receptionist. Then you can begin training with Info Line, which provides you with a strong human services foundation that is useful for any job in the field. |

The HELP BOOK is a vital reference book for anyone who works with people with limited resources or special needs. Describing over 700 human service agencies, programs and support groups, the Help Book is annually updated, expanded and revised. The newest edition is an indispensable tool to provide current and appropriate referrals. The Help Book covers Lane County, including Eugene, Springfield, Florence, Cottage Grove, and outlying areas.

- The ALPHABETICAL INDEX provides addresses and phone numbers for simple referral. It includes acronyms, abbreviations and alternate names. (Also included is an alpha index of 200+ agencies with availability of Spanish speakers.)

- The MAIN DIRECTORY describes each program and provides key information such as hours of operation, eligibility requirements, fees, program director and contact person, wheelchair accessibility and child care availability.

- The SUBJECT INDEX allows you to locate a resource by problem, type of service or special population. A complete list of cross references to related subject headings is included.
